Overture (1995) – 6 min. sound/video installation

In 1994 the City of Philadelphia sent out a request for proposals for a permanent public art installation in a 500 ft. long corridor at the Philadelphia International Airport. This video presents the proposal that was eventually selected and funded: an immense projected video image that superimposes live images of the arriving passengers (as they ascend on an escalator to Customs) over pre-recorded collaged images of the City. The work was to serve as a kind of annunciation of the arriving passenger, greeting them with a series of musical fanfares and ushering them into a re-imagined Philadelphia.
